Quiet Time in Obadiah 1

PERSONAL JOURNAL:

SIN ( Obadiah 1:3 ): Right off the bat I hear You speaking to me, Father.  You are speaking about a presumptuous heart deceiving them in this verse, which I feel is also how I have lived my life.  I often do things based on a presumptuous heart, which often leads me astray from You.  Please forgive me for this, Father.  Help me to be better at reaching out to You through the spirit, Your truth, and the spiritual men You’ve placed in my life when I feel I am being deceived by my presumptuous heart.

PROMISE ( Obadiah 1:17 ): You make a bold promise to the people through Obadiah here.  The promise is that one day there WILL be a deliverance on Mount Zion and that day will be a holy day!  Thank You for this amazing, promise, Father.  I look forward to Your return, if that’s what this is referencing.

ATTITUDE ( Obadiah 1:13 ): I do struggle a bit with gloating for some reason and here’s the second time You’ve mentioned it in as many verses.  Why do I struggle so much with gloating, Father?  Help me to figure out the root on this, so that I may one day be free from gloating just as Jesus was.

COMMAND ( Obadiah 1:12 ): Although I feel there are a LOT of commands in this scripture, this one in particular is hitting me heavily today.  You say to not gloat over your brother in the day of his calamity.  How often have I laughed at my friends or family when they made dumb mistakes yet get upset at them when they do the same to me?  Shouldn’t I treat others the way I’d like to be treated as we were taught in elementary school?  Help me to be better at this, Father.

EXAMPLE ( Obadiah 1:3, 12-13 ): I come back to these verses for the example I feel You are setting for me today.  You mentioned gloating several times, but You also spoke of a presumptuous heart.  Help me to live without a presumptuous heart, Father, so that I may also live free of gloating.  I feel they are tied together and if I can be freed of the presumptuous heart, then I will also be freed of the problem of gloating.

*DAILY NOTE: Thank You for Your great word today, Father.  I wasn’t sure where to go after finishing Mark at first, but I felt led to Obadiah and I’m glad I listened.  I truly do not believe I’ve ever read Obadiah in its entirety and I’m very sorry I haven’t because it is very powerful.  I think I want to dig into it deeper to learn more about the meaning behind some of it, the history, etc.  Thank You for revealing this to me today, Father.
