Quiet Time in Luke 6

PERSONAL JOURNAL:

SIN ( Luke 6:37b ): In the latter part of this verse, You tell me to forgive and I will be forgiven.  I don’t do this to be forgiven, but I do this for my own healing, Father.  I have held onto bitterness and resentment towards my wife over her multiple adulteries against me in Florida as well as the situation surrounding one of my kids.  Her feud with her sister recently awoken all of this bitterness and resentment, unfortunately, because her sister revealed what may or may not be a full truth that my wife was bragging about cheating on me.  Help me to truly forgive my wife of these things, Father.  Help me to truly release this bitterness and resentment I’ve been holding onto deep in my heart for so long.  Help me to gain true healing over all of this through You, so that I may be able to live with and love my wife according to Your will and not my own, Father.  She is forgiven through You and now she is forgiven by me as well.

PROMISE ( Luke 6:37 ): So much is revealed in this single verse.  When we hold onto unforgiveness, we are sinning through that unforgiveness.  When we forgive others, however, we are also promised forgiveness for the sin of unforgiveness.  Thank You so much for this promise, Father, as it has been truly uplifting to me this morning.

ATTITUDE ( Luke 6:37, 41 ): Again, I feel this verse speaking to me in conjunction with verse 41.  I see so many specks in the eyes of those who have sinned against me in some way, but I keep forgetting to work on the log in my own eye.  I need to change my attitude towards this by abiding in verse 37—stop judging, stop condemning, and stop living in unforgiveness.  Help me be better with this, Father.

COMMAND ( Luke 6:37 ): I see three commands in this one verse—do not judge, do not condemn, and forgive others.  I suck at all three of these, unfortunately, and am not sure quite how to get better at them other than actually doing them.  Help me, Father.  Help me to retrain my brain and my heart to do these commands as You want me to do them, not as my flesh keeps having me do them.  Help me to be better at doing things Your way and not my own, Father.

EXAMPLE ( Luke 6:1-11 ): Jesus was a rebel based on the religious world’s standards at the time; shoot even based on today’s religious standards He would likely still be considered a rebel to be honest.  He provides such a great against of living in Your truth against legalism, no matter the thoughts and opinions of others, nor the possible repercussions.  He knew, because He’s God, exactly what the end result would be for His actions on these two Sabbath days, yet that didn’t stop Him.  He knew the Pharisees were watching His actions in both of these instances, yet that didn’t stop Him.  Help me to be more bold like Jesus, Father, in going against the grind of “religion” in this world so that I may abide in Your truth of my faith and not the world’s.

*DAILY NOTE: I know I’m struggling quite a bit in my faith, life, and in general as of late, Father.  You are always there to hold me in Your comforting arms, however, and I am so grateful for that.  Thank You so much for all that You are and all that You do for me, Father.  Today’s quiet time struck a chord…well, several chords in my heart, but I guess I needed that today.  You spoke so loudly and boldly to me through a single verse today and I am grateful for that.  Thank You, Father.
