Quiet Time in Luke 14

PERSONAL JOURNAL:

SIN ( Luke 14:11 ): Father, I do struggle with humility at times.  Oftentimes I take on an attitude of entitlement like You speak of in this parable and I feel guilty for that.  I think it may be because my friends often got more “things” and parental love than I did.  Since we were not rich by any stretch of the imagination, my brother was locked up, my sister beat me like crazy, my parents were divorced, and my mom was always working I was rather jealous of them.  Please forgive me for this, Father, but also please heal this jealousy in me, Father, so that I may truly be healed by You and be better at consistently walking in humility.

PROMISE ( Luke 14:11 ): Back to this verse, Your promise today is quite simply those who live a life of humility for Your kingdom will be exalted!

ATTITUDE ( Luke 14:11 ): I want to fully embrace an attitude of humility in my life, Father.  Not because it means I’ll be exalted by You in Your kingdom, although that’s a great perk.  I want to be able to fully embrace an attitude of humility because of what I’ve noticed during the times that I do.  I often feel a lot better overall and do not experience the shameful moments like You speak of in this parable.  Help me to learn more about what humility looks like to You, Father, so that I may be better at embracing it in this life.

COMMAND ( Luke 14:27 ): There’s a lot to extract from the parable of the cost of following Jesus, even though it’s only a few verses.  In this verse specifically, Jesus speaks of His followers needing to bear their own cross.  I need to get better at taking up my cross and making the daily sacrifices needed in such.  You had a single day of sacrifice and that was the ultimate sacrifice.  My sacrifices pale in comparison to Yours so why do I struggle so much with it?  Please help me to understand this better, Father.

EXAMPLE ( Luke 14:7-14 ): This parable is such a powerful example of humility.  If I take the exalted position somewhere due to assumptions, privilege, whatever, then there’s the chance I could be humiliated when asked to move or downgrade my status.  However, if I walk in humility and take the lower position somewhere, then there’s always a chance that I could be exalted and asked to move to an upgraded status, but there’s never a chance that I’d be humiliated and downgraded.  WOW!  Jesus really knew how to give such accurate and powerful examples of living to us.  Thank You!

*DAILY NOTE: Another day and another great conversation with You, Father.  I have so much to work on and I need to remember to let go so that You can work in me as well.  I often try to be in control of everything but am constantly reminded that I screw things up when I try to be fully in control.  Help me to be better at listening to You, Father, so that You are in control and not me.  Thank You for a great lesson today, Father.
