PERSONAL JOURNAL:
SIN ( 1 Kings 8:66 ): This verse hit me like a dagger to the heart, Father. Why do I still struggle with being fully filled with a joyful heart? Why do I not feel the same joy and rejoicing heart towards all the goodness that You have done in my life and the lives of others just as Your people did here? Please forgive me for this, Father. I ask for forgiveness because I know You have done so much for me and I do have joy, rejoicing, and goodness in my heart, but at the same time I also still get angry, jealous, upset, sad, yearning, envious, etc. I still have issues fully embracing all the blessings You have bestowed on me. Please forgive me of this, but also help me to be better. Continue Your great works in my heart please, Father.
PROMISE ( 1 Kings 8:56 ): Solomon reminds the people of Your amazing promises made to Moses, but also reminds them that every single one of the promises You made to Moses had been fulfilled! Rejoice, because You are a God who never lies to us and never fails to fulfill Your promises. Thank You, Father!
ATTITUDE ( 1 Kings 8:66 ): Going back to this verse, I really need to get better at truly embracing and living out a joyful heart of praise. Help me with this please, Father. Continue to remind me of all of Your goodness in and around me. Continue to remind me of all the amazing things You have done in my life, Father. Continue to heal all of the wounds of my heart, Father.
COMMAND ( 1 Kings 8:61 ): Such a powerful command here and one that I have failed to follow so much in my life. The command is for us to let our hearts be completely devoted to You so that we walk in Your statutes and keep Your commands. I will admit that I still have things that I occasionally put above You, Father, which goes completely against this command. My inconsistent quiet times as of late is proof of that. I was doing quiet times with journals every day of the week for a year and now I am struggling to get to maybe 5-6 a week. Help my heart, Father.
EXAMPLE ( 1 Kings 8:46a ): Solomon is so blunt but at the same time always seems to include himself in things that he says to Your people. In the first half of this verse, Solomon says “when they sin against You—for there is no one who does not sin…” He’s praying to You for the people in that first part, then essentially reveals to them that he is also a sinner because there is NOBODY who does not sin. We’re all sinners, unfortunately. Seeing that Solomon spoke this words to You in a prayer, but over the people of Israel for them to hear is a powerful example of humility. Thank You for this, Father.
*DAILY NOTE: I was going to push off today’s quiet time, but I kept feeling pushed to get it done. Sorry for holding this off for so long today, Father. This scripture today was extremely powerful, although it was quite the lengthy read for a slow reader like me. Thank You for revealing so much to me today, Father. Thank You for always pushing me to be a better man in this life and helping me to keep my mind and heart focused on the steps You have planned for me instead of me always trying to take my own steps. Thank You for the lesson on my heart and humility today, Father. I needed this.
