Quiet Time in 1 Kings 22

PERSONAL JOURNAL:

SIN ( 1 Kings 22:18 ): I find this conversation amusing, but also convicting.  Ahab was clearly only wanting people to speak to him who spoke the words he wanted to hear and nothing else.  This was true even for Micaiah, whom spoke Your truth about defeat to Ahab even though all of his other “prophets” of other “gods” spoke about victory for Ahab.  I have often come to You seeking answers and expecting to hear a very specific thing back.  Many times the thing I hear back from You goes completely against what I want to hear and I do not bother listening to You for that wisdom/advice.  Please forgive me for this, Father.  Forgive me for often going into our relationship with pre-conceived thoughts and expectations instead of allowing You to guide me.  Please forgive me for often keeping my hands on the wheel instead of allowing You to drive.  Help me to be better with this, Father.

PROMISE ( 1 Kings 22:38 ): Just as You had promised, when Ahab died the dogs licked up his blood and the prostitutes bathed in it.  Your promises are always fulfilled and this one for Ahab was fulfilled just as You told him it would be.

ATTITUDE ( 1 Kings 22:18 ): My prayer today is that I do not continue down a path of the self-righteous attitude of Ahab.  Help me to embrace open ears, open eyes, and an open heart towards all things You say to me, Father.  Help me to ensure I do not do as Ahab did here, wanting to always hear what I WANT to hear in my flesh instead of what I NEED to hear in my spirit.

COMMAND ( 1 Kings 22:18 ): I also received a command from Ahab’s conversation and events.  The command from You today is quite simply to ask and listen with no pre-existing expectations of an answer.  If I do not build up a specific result from my questions to You, then anything You say to me will be what I accept.  I won’t have the internal battle/struggle like Ahab has shown here, which I often exemplify in my own life as well.  Help me to be better at this, Father.

EXAMPLE ( 1 Kings 22:17 ): Micaiah spoke Your truth to a king who basically despised him.  He spoke Your truth to a king which went against all of the other prophets (albeit of false gods) whom he consulted prior to reaching out to Micaiah which totaled over 400 men.  Micaiah spoke Your truth in the face of adversity and likely death.  Although he wasn’t put to death, he was punched in the face and imprisoned for speaking Your truth.  He knew this could happen, but that did not stop him from speaking Your truth.

*DAILY NOTE: Micaiah gives such a great example to live by.  If I am speaking Your truth, then no repercussions in this life should be a bother to me.  Ahab also gives a great example to live by, but in the opposite.  He asked questions of his spiritual people, except any followers of You, because he knew they would say to him what he WANTED to hear instead of what he NEEDED to hear—the Truth.  Thank You for speaking Your truth into me today, Father.  I need more of this for sure.
