Quiet Time in 1 Kings 17

Writer's picture: FilipFilip

PERSONAL JOURNAL:

SIN ( Conviction ): Last night I gave into temptation while my wife is out of town, Father.  I know You already know this, but I must confess it to You and repent.  Please forgive me for giving into the temptation of porn and masturbation, Father.  Forgive me for doing something that You have worked so hard in me to remove from my life.  I am sorry for giving into this temptation.  Please help me to lean on You for strength even more than I have been in the future so that I do not do this again, Father.

PROMISE ( 1 Kings 17:4, 6 ): You made a promise to Elijah that all would be provided for him at the wadi.  It may have been a bit nerve-wracking for him after hearing that You were bringing a great famine and that You wanted him to go out into the middle of nowhere and just sit by the water front and wait.  You made him a promise that You would take care of him, however, so I’m sure that left great confidence and calming in him for this journey.  Once again, You fulfilled Your promise by providing for him the entire time he was there.  Thank You, Father, for Your faithfulness.

ATTITUDE ( 1 Kings 17:5 ): As I mentioned above, You not only ordered Elijah to go out to a waterfront and standby, but You made him a promise that You would take care of him while there.  The very first thing that You wrote him doing is that he did what You commanded.  Elijah shows me an attitude of obedience and confidence in the things You want him to do.  Unfortunately, I have not been the same in my own spiritual journey, Father.  Please forgive me for this, Father, but help me remember that I can gain confidence from You if I am obedient to You.  Help me to fully embrace these attitudes in my heart, Father.

COMMAND ( 1 Kings 17:5, 9-10 ): Although the commands given to Elijah here are a little different, they both have the same core to them—obedience.  Your command to Elijah was for him to live out an obedient faith in You.  I will admit that I’ve struggled with this quite a bit in my spiritual journey, Father, even lately.  Please continue to be patient with me, mold me, and give me wisdom and discernment, Father.  Thank You for the endless amount of grace and patience You’ve shown me over the years.

EXAMPLE ( 1 Kings 17:5, 10 ): Elijah provides such a great example of how I am to follow You, Father.  He receives guidance from You and immediately took the actions necessary to implement that guidance in his life.  He didn’t sit on it and wait.  You told him to go to the Wadi Cherith and he immediately left to head there.  You told him not to worry while there as all would be provided for him and that’s exactly what he did.  You told him to then head away from there when the drought arrived to go to Zarephath to be taken care of by a widow woman whom who had also given a command to, so that’s exactly what he did.  He was obedience to Your guidance and commands, but also was quick to take the actions steps necessary on his part to follow through with Your requests of him.  I am not like this most of the time, unfortunately.  Please help me to be better, Father.

*DAILY NOTE: It’s been a few days since my last quiet time and it definitely shows with the way I gave into temptation last night.  Not only are my daily quiet times a way to get my mind right, but it also helps me to fight off temptation, the enemy, and my own flesh.  Thank You for this great reminder today, Father.  Continue Your great works in me while also continuing to shower me with grace and patience.  As You are well aware, I need a lot of patience sent my way as I am a very stubborn man.  Thank You, Father.
